"I am 28 and have lived down Green Street all my life. Every year as a child, me and my siblings would be excited to watch the carnival go past out road and see the carnival queen and all the floats. It would usually take between 20-30 minutes for the whole parade go past. This year, we didnít even realise it was going past till we heard the loud music whilst sat in the garden. We quickly walked down to see and all there was were three cars. The carnival queen and princesses all looked miserable and the lady who took our change was dressed like a seductive police woman! I couldn't believe it and how times have changed."

The Lavender Queen, Shannon, and her four princesses had the ahhhh factor atop their float filled with fragrant lavender plants as did the Heacham Rainbows who came as picnicking Flower Fairies taking the cup for Best Youth Entry."

"The carnival queen event saw five ladies battle it out in three rounds; bridalwear, eveningwear and a freestyle round where the girls could choose their own outfit and music. Danielle said: ìWearing the wedding dress from Lineyís Brides was my favourite part. If I got married that would be the dress I would want to wear, it was amazing.î In the end it was Danielle who came out on top, meaning she will now follow in the footsteps of her older sister Natasha who was carnival queen in 2012."

"The event was held at Chapel-en-le-Faith Methodist Church, in front of invited visiting Village and charity royalty from around the Derbyshire and High Peak area. Due to not having Derbyshire Royalty for 2012/13 the Court of Queens part of the event was kindly hosted by Junior Queen of the Peak Lauren, who welcomed visiting Royalty from Derbyshire and surrounding areas along with Charity Royalty."

"The game will commence with a toss of a coin, the winner of the toss may elect to strike or receive. A distance of no less than 8" or 20cm of lace must be between knuckle and nut. A small piece of nut or skin remaining shall be judged out, it must be enough to mount an attack. If both nuts smash at the same time then the match shall be replayed. A player causing a knotting of the laces will be noted, three snags will lead to disqualification. The game will be decided once one of the conkers is smashed."

"High winds and bouts of rain have cancelled the popular Glapwell Carnival which was supposed to take place last weekend after a gap of more than 20 years. A spokesman for The Glapwell Community Development Group, who organise the festival, said: ìUnfortunately due to the bad weather report the committee voted to cancel the event for health and safety reasons.î

"Carnival Week culminated in a colourful procession of costumed characters celebrating the silver anniversary of the event being reinstated in the village. One of the highlights of the procession was the appearance of past village royalty, including the 1948 carnival queen Dora Pearce, who arrived in a chauffeur-driven Bentley. The long and winding procession featured traditional characters, along with topical ones, and was led by members of the North Cornwall Hunt, which is based in the Bodmin Moor village."

"Leaden rain clouds had been building up over Wells from latemorning, and the heavens opened in the afternoon just as the fancy dress judging was getting under way on the Buttlands. Not that this bothered some of the entrants, togged up from head to toe as Daleks, and even a pint-sized version of the Westminster clock tower housing Big Ben. And the rumblings came not from the skies but from ground level -and the thunderous percussion of the Norwich Samba Band."

"I'm scared to get close and I hate being alone. I long for that feeling to not feel at all. The higher I get, the lower I'll sink. I can't drown my demons, they know how to swim."

"Councillors had said attendances dropped to a level where it was difficult to justify supporting it. In its heyday, the parade attracted crowds of more than 100,000 people but attendances had dropped, with about 40,000 attending in 2012."
