Election of a gypsy king

The UK's first ever Roma Gypsy election gets under way in Peterborough, Cambridgeshire on Saturday 25th June 2011. Nineteen candidates from across Britain have been  campaigning  for the title of 'King of the Gypsies, which in past years was decided with a fist-fight but today the winner will be nominated by the ballot box.  The victor will be awarded a crown and a 'gold' stick which will empower them to adjudicate on disputes within the community
