Mary Mallatratt Dole Tradition

The 'dole' was started in 1894 when the Mansfield left monies to provide 48 hot cross buns to the children of the town.

Residents of Trinity Hospital Almshouses assemble before the Clerk to the Trustees on Founders Day. The almshouses in Castle Rising, Norfolk, have offered permanent accommodation to destitute spinsters and widows of the parish since 1614 provided they 'are  religious, grave, discreet and no beggar, harlot, scold drunkard or haunter of taverns”.
