Steve Whitworth of Oakley Farms in Outwell, Norfolk begins quality checking half a million pumpkins before sending them off for sale. The farm started growing the fruit 20 years ago in response from requests from American airmen stationed at nearby bases who wanted to celebrate Halloween. They now grow nearly three million a year . This weekend sees the beginning of the large supermarkets seasonal sales campaigns after Halloween became the most lucrative non-religious celebration outstripping Valentine's Day and Mother's Day.
