Fairy Bonnet toadstools (Coprinus Disseminatus) weathering a storm in a Norfolk churchyard, 18th November 2006. Fungi play a vital role in the renewal of nature during the month of November. Attaching themselves to plants, especially trees they form a symbiotic relationship with their host, simultaneously feeding on their nutrients and recycling fallen leaves to assist in the growth of roots. Mankind has utilised their properties in brewing and baking for thousands of years but more recently has discovered their usefulness in preventing the rejection of human organs during transplants.
