A Tullos threshing machine owned by farmer Jesse Watson, of Littleport, Cambridgeshire up for auction after his death. Watson purchased the machine in 1946 and transported it down from Aberdeen to the Fens by rail. A technological marvel in its time, it took three men to operate it but did the job of six - mechanically separating grain from chaff, husks, and straw without complaint. The process fed cut crops into the machine, where rotating drums loosened the grain, sieved it, winnowed away debris, and delivered it ready for milling. Its tenure however, was short lived. Lacking self-propulsion it needed to towed into the field by tractor or horse. Within ten years it was displaced by the combine harvester who could undertake all those task via an internal combustion engine and one man.
