Bishop of Lynn Opens Town's Historic Funfair

King’s Lynn, Norfolk, UK, 14/02/2026. The Suffragan Bishop of Lynn, The Right Reverend Dr Jane Elizabeth Steen riding the dodgems after blessing the 819th King’s Lynn mart .The fair is the oldest in the UK, having been granted a charter by King John in 1205 for the event to be held each year on Valentine's Day. It is also the first fair in the Showman’s calendar where new rides are premiered before moving off around the country. After leading prayers, the Bishop traditionally takes a turn on one of the rides to ensure they are safe & suitable for the public.
